"The ...Funny you should ask that this year... <br />"The Artist" (a silent B&W film) is one of 9 films up for Best Picture. <br />Honestly, yes, I think a silent film can't stand up to the other non-silent films made today. People want to be (and are used to being) entertained by sound... not only dialogue, but we need just the right sound effects and musical score to accompany it. I liken it to the boom in personal technologies. Everywhere you go, you see people listening to iPods, playing on their phones, reading a book, etc. Nobody can just sit still and be silent anymore. (We all have a little ADD in us.)<br />That said, a silent film is nominated this year. Who can even remember the last time one was done in the mainstream (or one people wanted to see)? The odd fact that one WAS done and in today's technology (with improved filming techniques), made it intriguing to audiences. Most people also like films that are "different". "The Artist" certainly is. I saw it recently with hubby on a date night and with all its Oscar buzz, I wouldn't be surprised if it won Best Picture. :)LadyAmyhttp://oscarsbest.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5604998867726002938.post-13248184482583989122011-12-06T06:18:50.932-08:002011-12-06T06:18:50.932-08:00Do you think because a movie is silent that it has...Do you think because a movie is silent that it has less potential to meet criteria for a Best Picture nowadays?alli f.s.https://www.blogger.com/profile/00711689503383794839noreply@blogger.com
